WAZER Dry Abrasive System Inspection

WAZER Pro cannot cut without the consistent and reliable delivery of abrasive from the Dry Abrasive system. It is critical to maintain the Dry Abrasive system and address any issues before a cut. Checking the Dry Abrasive system only takes a few seconds, but can prevent a failed cut that may cost much more.

Required Tools

  • Flash Light or a light source

  • PPE (gloves, masks and eye goggles)

Procedure

Physical component check

The Dry Abrasive system consists of a Hopper, Pinch valve assembly, catcher, abrasive hose, backflow sensors, and hose ends.

The Dry Abrasive system holds abrasive in the hopper, releases the abrasive in a metered amount, and delivers the abrasive reliably to the nozzle for cutting.

In the process, the sensors in the abrasive hose keep their eye out for any backlow. If backflow is detected, the cutting is paused.

The first check is components check, make sure all components are in place and correctly connected/installed.

Starting from the nozzle assembly, check the hose end dry, and firmly plug into the nozzle side port with two O-rings buried.

Trace the abrasive hose backwards till the tank Grommet, ensure the abrasive hose is properly fixed to the Whip Block, and no pierce holes are visible.

Then move to the left side of the WAZER Pro, pull out the abrasive hopper, ensure the two Abrasive Screens are in place.

Then move to the bottom of the hopper, check the pinch valve assembly is intact. The rubber catcher is properly attached to the pinch valve, and the other end of the abrasive hose is properly attached to the catcher.

Trace the abrasive hose from this end, following the direction of the abrasive, two backflow sensors will be located.

Make sure both of the sensors are physically connected to the hose, and electrically connected to their respective connector.

Quick Abrasive flow check

Make sure enough abrasive is in the hopper

Remove the Abrasive Catcher from the bottom of the Abrasive Valve

Place something below the Abrasive valve to catch abrasive

Locate the black “button” in the center of the abrasive valve.

Press this in and hold it to start the flow of abrasive

Check the flow density against the examples provided on this page, to gauge the flow rate of the abrasive out from the hopper.

Refer to WAZER online instructions to clean the hopper if too little or no abrasive flows out

Refer to WAZER online instructions to reset the abrasive flow if the flow is too high.

Suction check

Open the abrasive drawer and remove the Abrasive Hose from the Abrasive Catcher.

Navigate to Setup & Maintenance > Maintenance > Nozzle Purge  and start the routine while keeping your water on. Make sure to keep the abrasive hose plugged into the side of the nozzle.

While the Nozzle Purge is running, place you finger over the end of the abrasive hose.

You should feel a strong suction.

Refer to WAZER online instructions to check the high pressure system if no suction is felt.
